SOSE Symbian OS Explained
Effective C++ Programming for Smartphones

This book explains how to write the most effective C++ code for Symbian OS. It is for readers with a fair understanding of C++ who wish to improve their understanding of the idioms of Symbian OS C++.

Developing good C++ code on Symbian OS requires a clear understanding of the underlying concepts and the nature of the operating system. This book explains the key features of Symbian OS, and aspects of good C++ style that are required on this platform. With understanding and practice, the expertise required to write high quality C++ code on Symbian OS should become second nature.

Symbian OS Explained is published by Symbian Press. You can buy it online, for example, from Amazon. It is also available at a reduced rate in India, and translated into Japanese and Chinese.

Symbian OS Explained: Upgrades
Symbian OS Explained was published in October 2004 and is based on Symbian OS v7.0 and v7.0s. Some of the text is now out-of-date for Symbian OS 8.x and 9.x, and some important topics, such as Platform Security, are not covered. Jo is planning to make updates, but doesn't anticipate a new edition of the book being available until mid-2007, at the earliest.
